Call for Artists: The Adams Theatre 2015 Farewell Art Exhibit

The Utah Shakespeare Festival is calling on artists who create in any medium to submit original artwork to celebrate the Festival’s final season in the historic Adams Shakespearean Theatre.

The exhibition will be in the Randall L. Jones Theatre lobby June 25 to October 31, 2015, which will be the Festival’s final season in the Adams Theatre. In 2016, the Festival will move its outdoor performances to the new Engelstad Theatre.

The deadline to submit completed artwork is April 1, 2015. The exhibition will be juried, and accepted artwork may be for sale or solely for exhibition. Artists may also produce prints to be sold at the Randall Gifts and Gallery, if they desire.

Submitted artwork must have the Adams Theatre, in whole or in part, as the motif. All visual media will be accepted, including, but not limited to, oil paintings, watercolors, stained glass, photography, mosaics, bronze work, pastels, pencil or ink drawings, wood carvings, quilts, and ceramics.

Artists may prepare for the exhibition during the 2014 Festival season. Working artists are not allowed in the vicinity of the Adams Theatre during performances (after 8 p.m.) and perhaps during other special events. However, they may work during The Greenshow (starting at 7:10 each evening) or at other times, or after the outdoor season ends on August 30.

“The Adams Theatre has some incredibly beautiful and unique architecture,” said Phil Hermansen, Festival art director and coordinator of the exhibit. “I hope artists from anywhere will visit and then submit their artistic interpretation of this beloved building.”
