Submitting Your Script
To submit your script for consideration in the New American Playwrights Project, follow the guidelines below:

We are now considering plays for the 2011 season.  Many factors determine our selection of plays for the New American Playwrights Project, including theme and content, cast size and potential for professional production. If you are interested in re-submitting or submitting any new scripts, please note the following:

1. Scripts can be received beginning March 1, 2010; to meet the deadline, they must be postmarked by December 1, 2010.
2. The New American Playwrights Project iis especially interested in material that explores characters and ideas that focus on our American Western experience, spirit, and heritage. We will also accept scripts that focus on “classic” characters, subjects, and themes such as Shakespeare and other figures of historical, literar,y or artistic significance.
3. Plays should be original, un-produced full-length, bound scripts that are finished enough to profit from a workshop reading by professional actors but still open to revision. Do not send a synopsis, musicals, children’s plays, or screenplays. No plays by multiple authors or collaborations will be accepted.
4. Scripts may not exceed ninety pages of dialogue and must be bound in traditional script form.
5. Cast size must be limited to fifteen characters or less.
6. You will be notified after March 15, 2011, regarding the status of your play.
7. Scripts will not be returned.

8. A non-refundable $20 submission fee is required for entry into the New American Playwrights Project. Make checks or money orders payable to:  “Utah Shakespearean Festival NAPP.” Payment must be included with your script. Do not send cash.
9. The New American Playwrights Project is staged-play readings only. Your script, if selected, will receive a fully staged reading with the Utah Shakespearean Festival performing company, performed before the Festival audience.
10. If your script is selected, you must be willing to provide that in all subsequent productions the Utah Shakespearean Festival receive credit in all programs and publicity material.  The appropriate format should read:  "Original reading by the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Cedar City, Utah."
11. If your script is selected, you must be able to be in residence for the one week of rehearsal and performance in August. The Festival will provide lodging and complimentary tickets to each of the Festival summer season productions presented during your stay.
12. The playwright is responsible for the cost of their transportation to Cedar City, Utah. If you choose to fly into Las Vegas, Nevada, or St. George, Utah, the Festival will provide ground transportation to Cedar City.
