Playmakers, ages 7–18

The 2018 Playmakers production will be The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, an irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of American, based on Mark Twain's classic novel. Set in 1840 Missouri, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the tale of young Tom Sawyer and the never-ending mischief which he so often finds himself a part of. Along with his best friend, Huckleberry Finn, and his love interest, Becky Thatcher, the greatest Tom Sawyer exploits are plucked from the book and plopped onto the stage.

Festival Education Director Michael Bahr is directing and teaching this program.

Playmakers Junior, ages 5 and older

New this year is the Playmakers Junior program, a class and production that teaches theatre fundamentals to children ages five and older. Students will learn song and dance with a live piano, practice rehearsal etiquette, and work, share, give, and play with others.  The Playmakers Junior production will be We Are Monsters, a hilarious new musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock 'n' roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye.

Britannia Howe is directing and teaching this program. She created a similar program for young performers in Ashland, Oregon, and is thrilled to provide this training for young artists here in Cedar City.
